Aseya Bistro Orientale

February 17th, 2008 by gwing

Days before the dinner at Aseya Bistro Orientale, I was so excited. It was just my second time to be part of the Davao Blogger’s Food Trip and only a few went during my first time (Belly’s Grill).

On February 1, we were finally there to try Aseya. When ate Ria and I arrived there, few of the bloggers were already there.

We were first served with their Aseya Salad with Hoisin and Peanut Dressing, that was absolutely YUMMY! Although I usually avoid salads, I wanted to try everything out, so I ate a little. After trying it, I ended up eating it all throughout the meal which is unlikely of me. I loved the peanut dressing so much!

We were then served their Tom Yum Kung Soup, a very popular Thai dish. I don’t really like Thai food but I somehow enjoyed it. It was just too spicy for me, which is the exact opposite of what others said.

We also ate Goi Cuon Spring Rolls, Tofu with Chicken and Mushrooms, Deep-fried Pork served with Chili and Peppers, and Muphad Kaprao. I loved the Tofu with Chicken and Mushrooms since it wasn’t spicy at all and I love mushrooms, period! I thought that the spring rolls were too herby so I broke my “I will try everything” promise.

When ate Ria ate some of the Muphad Kaprao, she suddenly turned red and said that she ate a piece of chili. I got so scared that I carefully segregated the spicy stuff from the beef. It was yummy, but again, too spicy for me. We also tried out their Sukiyaki which was my kind of soup. (hehe)

It was my first time to try Kamameshi and they served us four kinds - Seafood, Kani, Chicken, and Mixed! It was de-li-cious!

Thank you to the owners, Ponchit and Lani Ponce Enrile who were there to entertain us.

A few days after that leg of the food trip, we suggested to our parents that we eat at Aseya and they agreed. When my brother and I arrived, some were already there and had ordered some appetizers. After settling on my seat, I immediately ordered the Aseya Salad, which I liked very much. When everybody was already there, we each had our orders.

We ordered the same food as we did a few days before. In addition to these were the Bakareta, Chicken Pandan, Pad Thai, Beef Teppanyaki, and Yasai Itame. The waiters kept on taking our orders but when we asked them about some of the food on the menu, they didn’t know what to answer. I think they were lacking in kitchen staff because most of our orders arrived after about an hour of waiting. Unfortunately, the Aseya Salad wasn’t as delicious as before (sad face). Most of the food were already served to us except for my brother’s and cousin’s. Then one waiter told us that the food that they ordered was not available. Noho! They lost their appetite after that. Although the food is great, I hope that Aseya would spend time in training the employees and in orienting them with the menu.
