TaleCraft
Monday, January 21st, 2008About a week ago, I received an e-mail from Kuya Blogie. He was promoting a story-creation contest, Talecraft. I was curious about it and clicked the link to its site. It was really creating a story! Ugh. I really don’t like those literature-related stuff. Anyway, I also read that they needed volunteers during the contest, and I am interested since I got curious about the game. I asked Ate Ria if she wanted to help out because if she did, I would too. After telling her, she immediately e-mailed Ria Lu, the creator of Talecraft.
On January 12, 2008, I went to Gaisano Mall with my classmates. Since I didn’t know Ria Lu then, I was hesitant to go to the venue. I just waited for ate Ria to arrive and when she did, I went to Spazio and there were already some people practicing. After I met the organizers, Maita taught me how to play it. A player has to pick 9 cards - 1 genre card, 2 archetype cards, and 6 key cards. From those cards, the player must create a story in ten minutes and tell it to everyone.
** I would never think of joining a story-creating contest in a million years! I would even shake in a reporting at class, what more delivering a story I created in just 10 minutes! **
Marie (Ria Lu’s sister), ate Ria, and I were the judges for the elimination round. The winners of that round were Javin Jet Tevar, Therese Patricia Yucamco, Kelly Marie Conlon, and Raymond Palayon.
Josie Tejada, Margot Marfori, Jhoanna Cruz, and Macario Tiu of the Davao Writers’ Guild were the judges for the final round. The four finalists were to create a story from the same set of cards. After 10 minutes, they would tell their story to the judges first, and then tell that same story to everyone else.
Raymond won 3rd place. Kelly won 2nd place. And the first Davao Talecraft Champion is Therese! Congratulations to everybody!
